I've had the chance to visit this beautiful city, which inspires me to write these following impressions:
Amsterdam is so wonderful. It's very difficult to visit a city where everything is almost perfect. At least, in the city centre. There, the buildings are so special, following a style which has no similarity in which I'm accustomed to see. The street plan is also beautiful and makes you recognize the city at the first sight.
The city centre is full of channels, because all the country is land won to the sea. So, Holland is a good example of ancient and magnificient architecture. Now, the land is very fertile and because of this, all kinds of agriculture and livestock breeding can be carried out.
In addition, Amsterdam is a model in terms of tolerance. Starting with the city centre, we find different districts living altogether with any problem (The Chinese district, the Jewish one and the prostitutes of the red light district are at only 5 minutes from each other). This is remarquable among the population too. In fact, people from different races chat and go out altogether.
Even if it's the capital of the country, the city's not very populated. When you're walking down the streets of the dowtown, you don't feel like you were in a stressful city. Indeed, just the opposite: the calm you can find in Amsterdam is very difficult to find in another European capital. The water has something to do with this fact, as well as the little amount of cars that pass through this part. Instead of cars, the bikes full all the streets, due to their popularity to move around the disctricts. But sometimes, they appear to be an enemy for the pedestrians: if you go there, be careful when you hear the sound of a bike's bell and move appart immediately unless you want to be run over.
Moreover, the weather is quite unstable. Clouds move so fast, as if they were running away from something, which makes that a sunny day can turn to a rainy one in a few hours. I don't know why the clouds move so fast, maybe they're under the effect of the windmills of the countryside. But an umbrella or raincoat can be really useful.
Finally, the nights at Amsterdam are more special than in any other city, due to the romantic view of the channels and the lights. And, if you're lucky, you can listen to good music, like Gyrospect, a group who makes those nights more magical. Or in a funny day, you can see the Danish bottle boys playing on the ground. Every musical show is perfectly adequated to the hours when they're offered.
So, I strictly recommend the visit to this city (and if it's possible, to the whole country) for so many reasons: tolerance, difference, history, culture, architecture, development, freedom, water, agriculture... and I could keep on writting more reasons.
